St. John Frizell is an award-winning writer, bartender, and owner of Fort Defiance, a critically-acclaimed cafe-bar in Red Hook, Brooklyn. In 2005, Frizell quit his job as promotion copy director of Bon Appétit magazine to travel around the world in the footsteps of the great Charles H. Baker, Jr. When he returned to New York, he learned the art of bartending working with Audrey Saunders at her world-renowned cocktail bar Pegu Club, and opened Fort Defiance in 2009. Frizell writes a monthly cocktail column for Men's Journal, and his writing on food, travel, and cocktails has appeared in many publications, including Bon Appétit, Gourmet.com, Saveur, Fine Cooking, Islands, Time Out New Yorkepicurious.comOxford AmericanEdible BrooklynEdible Manhattan, and Al Jazeera Online, and was collected in Best Food Writing 2012.
