The Bay Area has been the birthplace to many well-known cocktails including the Martinez, Pisco Punch, the Mai Tai, and the Boothby Cocktail.
Join Bay Area native, Anchor Distilling Company, and old school San Francisco bartenders Borys Saciuk, Ryan Fitzgerald, Dominic Venegas, and Jon Santer who will be sampling these Bay Area originals alongside new school bartenders from the Bay Shaher Misif, Morgan Schick, Kevin Diedrich, and David Ruis who will be sampling their unique riffs on the originals.
Between cocktails explore the Anchor portfolio through neat product tastings guided by the producers themselves, including BarSol Pisco, Luxardo, Mezcal Amaras, Tempus Fugit, Westland Distillery, and more.Uncle Val’s Gin and our small craft spirits company, based in Sonoma, California, are on our maiden trip to "Tales.” NOLA in July? We say, of course and we are bringing with us the winners of our “Story of a Bartender” contest. For months we have interviewed bartenders from across the country, finding out what has inspired them, even irritates them and especially what drives them in their professional and quite personal journey behind the bar. Meet the winning few, whose stories stood out above all others and check out their story in our tasting room - while they sling cocktails made with our hand-crafted gin. Share and imbibe in cocktails, swag and bits of charcuterie, while mingling with members of our small company. We’ve found that an auspicious bartender’s professional journey, and therefore their story, is invariably dotted with passion, ingenuity, desire and even coincidence. All of our craft spirits, each the result of a distinct journey, are similarly dotted with those dynamic qualities that make each unique. Don’t miss your chance to taste our entire line-up: Uncle Val’s Gin, Kirk and Sweeney Rum, Bib and Tucker Bourbon and Masterson’s Whiskey. Share your story, and we’ll share ours – over a cocktail, of course.
With a history stretching back to 1698, there is no more traditional spirit in America than the Laird company’s fine apple brandies. Likewise, it would be difficult to find two contemporary mixologists more devoted to the traditional way of making drinks than Paul Gustings and David Wondrich—or rather, one contemporary mixologist and one contemporary bartender (Gustings hates to be called a “mixologist,” but then again he hates a lot of things). Heading the bar at the iconic Broussard’s, Gustings has expanded the collective palate of New Orleans one drink at a time, while Wondrich, a man renowned for his encyclopedic knowledge of spirits as well as his impressive beard, literally wrote the book on the pre-Prohibition cocktail.

The famous Italian mixologist Matteo Zed along with the winner of the 1st Liquore Strega cocktail competition will demonstrate the versatility of Liquore Strega in the cocktail era.
Liquore Strega’s story started in 1860 in the south of Italy in the town of Benevento.
Giuseppe Alberti and his apothecary father revised an ancient recipe for a herbal liqueur that according to legend was brewed by witches in the area and used as love potion; this is how it got its name: Liquore Strega “Witch Liqueur”.
Liquore Strega is distilled from a mixture of 70 different kinds of botanicals from Europe, Central America and from Orient. Among the ingredients are: cinnamon from Ceylon, Juniper from the Italian Appennino and mint that grows wild on the river banks around Benevento. Its characteristic golden colour is given by distilled saffron extract. The maturing in oak barrels enhances the bouquet.
The recipe for this liqueur is a closely guarded secret within the Alberti family. It has been handed down through five generations always from father to son. Liquore Strega is truly an Italian Icon.Witness Amaro Montenegro’s incredible versatility in a series of mesmerizing performances. The Danish cocktail culture started around the same time as the Nordic food scene started to develop and made its entry to the world.
In the search for their own identity, bartenders got inspired by the Nordic chefs seeking local produce and flavors. After opening their minds and their guests palates towards this, a new approach to cocktails was born.
Keywords for Ruby, is to be inspired by the ever changing seasons of Copenhagen which makes the guests crave new flavors and innovations, being able to use the best ingredients in season.
Looking upon the cocktail as a creation of its surroundings to make the exact spirit shine in a new and different way, with a link to the classic cocktail culture.
This year at Tales of the cocktail®, Ruby will be joining creative forces with PDT and Cure for a memorable experience of Nordic inspired thinking, to create cocktail interpretations of their menus.

Domaine de Canton is handcrafted using Baby Ginger, Cognac Tahitian Vanilla and Prevencal Honey. The Corner Bar at Hotel Monteleone will be transformed into a market with specialty ingredients featured in cocktails developed by Heaven Hill National Brand Educator Lynn House.
Domaine de Canton French Ginger Liqueur is inspired by the French tradition in which sweet and fresh elixirs are fortified by fine eau de vie and cognac. Domaine de Canton is the world's first and only ultra-premium ginger liqueur.Italian Aperitifs, Liqueurs and Amari have been around for centuries and nowadays represent a significant and growing influence as mixology ingredients worldwide. Yet formulation of some of these products often involves the use of botanical ingredients that elicit less than desirable taste sensations such as bitterness and astringency. Or on the opposite, liqueurs depend on the importance of the sweetness component used as a flavor fixative in the manufacturing of proprietary formulas handed down by generations, still largely enjoyed today neat or mixed. The aim of the seminar is to learn the origins, cultural influence and organoleptic differences explored through the breakdown of flavoring components and manufacturing techniques. You will learn how to maximize the cocktail-crafting organoleptic experience based on botanical intensity, texture and lingering aromatic complexity. New tasting evaluation techniques will also be shared for the first time during the seminar. There will be 7 tasting samples spanning from vermouth, amari and liqueurs ready to stimulate your mixology creative talents!
The audacious panel moderated by Francesco Lafranconi-a Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Award Winner, Erik Lorincz and Avery Glasser founder of NYC first Bitter Bar: Amor Y Amargo utilizing an extensive offering of Amari in cocktail creations. This elite team along with The Spirit of Italy brands' owners/producers will share with you the origins and heritage of the Italian Amari & Liqueurs.

Monkey Business
Admittedly, it appears somewhat eccentric to claim that a recipe for gin has the power to unite great British traditions, the exoticness of India, and the purity and nativeness of the Black Forest. And yet it is precisely this eccentricity that defines the enigmatic character of Montgomery Collins, from whom our Schwarzwald Dry Gin originates.
Join us at Bellocq for some eccentric libations made with the rare but true Monkey 47 Schwarzwald Dry Gin

Dynamic Duo Double Trouble!
You won’t want to miss this Double Trouble Dynamic Duo!
Join us at Twelve Mile Limit, the best Dive Bar in New Orleans as we don our seersucker’s and black eyeliner and revel in the goodness that is LL Kinahan’s Irish Whiskey.
Who better to represent than “Gaz” Gary Regan who needs no introduction and who is sure to entertain and delight with his famous finger stir and witty banter; amongst Ryan Maybee of KC, Rieger Hotel Grill and Exchange, Paris of the Plains Cocktail Festival and RoundTable Rye Consulting, with Scot Mattox founder of El Guapo Bitters and Master Bar Czar for Phenix Brands… and of course T Cole Newton who has put Twelve Mile Limit on the map!
The experience will be unlike anything you have ever witnessed! Each will select a cocktail made of LL Kinahan’s Irish Whiskey who is making it’s debut at Tales!
LL Kinahan’s is the original Irish Whiskey and one of the most successful whiskey products in history. In 1808, Kinahan’s attracted the attention of the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland and former Duke of Richmond who ordered that the whiskey be kept exclusively for himself. This resulted in each cask being marked “LL”. Our traditional blend of Kinahan’s Irish Whiskey is carefully matured in two types of the finest oak casks and skillfully blended to revive the unique flavor and taste of a forgotten Dublin’s whiskey of LL flavor.
As crafted by Daniel Kinahan, the premium Irish whiskey is non-chill filtered, distilled, matured, and bottled in Ireland. Although throughout history many have tried to replicate the unique recipe and quality of LL Kinahan’s, it can only be imitated, but not equaled. There is only one true LL Kinahan’s.
