Grape Escape: Peru's Pisco Varietals

Peru served as the first center of viticulture of the Western Hemisphere dating back to 1548. The vines the Spaniards brought to the New World blossomed thanks to the engineering feats of the Incas who designed aqueducts to irrigate the Pisco Valley with water that melted from the Andean glaciers. This is the home where over 500 years ago varieties such as Moscatel, Torontel, Albilla and Mollar took root. Today these grapes plus Quebranta, Italia, Negra Criolla and Uvina, represent the richness of the Pisco category.

In fact, the wealth and diversity of each of these grapes is celebrated by the “campesinos” who work the land by the nicknames they have given each grape. Want to find out what they are? And who the Sophia Loren of grapes might be? Join us at our seminar and also learn how each grape's unique identity can be exploited in cocktails whether for their aromatic bouquets or their grassy, toasted notes. The bounty these grapes offer are ripe with opportunity to create exciting cocktails. At our seminar you'll enjoy new Pisco cocktail creations from Tony Abou-Ganim, Juan Coronado and Brother Cleve, and you'll get to hear the lore about these grapes directly from producers Johnny Schuler (Porton) and Melanie Asher (Macchu Pisco/La Diablada).
