Barley. It’s the dominant cereal grain in most whiskies, from American Single Malts to legendary Scotches. Even bourbons require respectable malted barley percentages to activate fermentation. But what do we know about this grain? Is an American Single Malt made from the same type of barley as Scotch? In the times of genetically modified organisms and Big Agriculture, how clean and sustainable is the barley used for making whisky?

In “Barley Matters: From U.S. to Europe,” attendees will get Geeky with grain knowledge.

In a world, where consumers just want to know where their products come from, Barley Matters: From U.S. to Europe is an open barley book.

And perhaps more importantly, as the likes of Monsanto clone and create new seed types, whisky makers are among the last line of defense for GMO-free grains. Their passion and efforts are keeping barley pure. Just like it should be.
